Commercial Chorders
So, you like chording, but are not up for building it?
The following list contains the commercial chorders I know of that you can buy. A listing on this page does not constitute and endorsement. Some of these I have tried, some I have not.
| Desk use | ||
|---|---|---|
| BAT (discontinued) | Desk use 7 button chorder, fixed chordset with user programmable macros | I have used Bats. I like the feel of them, but they are too large to wear without modification |
| Half-Qwerty full size keyboard | A standard keyboard that mirrors itself so you can use it with one hand | This is probably what you want if you are temporarily restricted to typing with one hand and are a good touch typist already |
| Small keyboards that can be easily carried | ||
| cykey (No longer seems to exist)1) | 7 button chorder, small and light. Fixed chordset | I have never handled one of these, but they look nice. Design allows for Right or Left hand use. Not as erg as the Bat. |
| frogpad (site exists, but I don't know if it's still available) | 20 button chorder, small. Fixed chordset | I have never used the Frogpad |
| Wearable keyboards | ||
| twiddler4 (Still in production!) | Hand held chorder, 16 button chorder, user programmable chordset | Many folks in the wearable community use these. Is both a keyboard and a pointing device. |
| L3 WristPC (dead link) | Wrist mounted qwerty keyboard | I have never used this, it is a rugged mini qwerty keyboard. |
| Wearable keyboards on Kickstarter | ||
| DecaTxt (Kickstarter project) | one handed 10 key chorder | In the backing phase which ends October 21 2026 - check it out |
1)
There is now another keyboard calling itself “cykey” but it is not a chorder. Last I heard there was a software version on the cykey chorder you could run on your tablet or phone but I am no longer seeing that link
