Punctuation & Specials: The Near Thumb Key
Punctuation is most often based on the alphabet chord for the first letter of it's name. For example, the chord for the letter P is:
thumb | finger |
center | index | middle | ring | pinky |
p | | p | |
and the chord for Period . is the same chord but made with the Near Thumb, not the Center Thumb:
thumb | finger |
near | index | middle | ring | pinky |
. | | . | |
mnumonic | puntuation | Shifted |
| | |
p | period . | greater than > |
c | comma , | less than < |
a | apostrophy ' | double quote “ |
v | semi colon ; | colon : |
Then there are a few, that you just memorize…
g | Escape Esc |
q | Control Control |

Numbers : The Near Thumb Key Prefix
Shifted Numbers : The Near & Center Thumb Key Prefix
As an alternative to pressing the far thumb key in addition to the near thumb key to get the shifted keys, the chord made by pressing the near thumb key together with the center thumb key can be used. Pressing the near thumb & center thumb at the same time is the same as pressing the far thumb followed by the near thumb, either combination will give you Shift and the near thumb prefix.
Several math symbols are mnumoniclay based on the english name of the symbol. For example equall = is the Near Thumb prefix followed be the chord for E. Shift follows QWERTY bindings.
Here are those chords:
alpha | with near prefix | shifted |
e | equall = | + |
a | add + |
s | subtract - | underscore _ |
m | multiply * |
d | divide / | ? |
b | backslash \ | | |
q | question mark ? |
z | back tick ` | tilde ~ |
p | percent % |
x | ampersand & |
